Malta Fashion Week 2018 Day 3 Presentations & Fashion shows
Maria Cutajar presented her collection called “Dejjem F’qalbna” which is dedicated to her grandfather, John Cutajar he had unfortunately passed away in 2016. John Cutajar was the first artist who created models of the traditional Maltese balconies. Maria chose the balconies which we get to see in Mdina, as her muse for her collection.
The presentation of her collection was very dramatic and once the models started to walk out in her collection, it was difficult to get my eyes off her work. The collection had a combination of textures and the colours were mainly black, dark rich green and red. Both the green and red colours are often seen used for painting the traditional Maltese balconies. The lead makeup artist was Natasha Polidano and the team, together with the lead hairstylist Mate Irsik and the team.
My personal favourite pieces were those that had a black hood which gave a gothic feel to the look. I am a fan of bold, dramatic and even theatrical pieces, so to witness Maria Cutajar’s collection live was a true delight for me.
AB Headpieces by Adalia
It was my first time getting to view Adalia’s headpieces and even though I have never walked that path of wearing extravagant headpieces, each of Adalia’s pieces were like masterpieces on all their own. The models wore designs by Claudia Gescher which looked stunning with Adalia’s headpieces. Each headpiece contained so much little detail carefully placed together to create a beautiful headpiece with each one reflecting a certain personality trait.
There was quite a big variety to look at and choose from, depending on what suits you best by character and occasion. The makeup artists, with the lead being Karen Decelis used Evagarden makeup and the lead hairstylist was Narelle Fabri Opyrchal who used Tresemme products with her team.
My personal favourite was the headpiece which resembled a peacock’s tail. It was quite large and had such vibrant colours. Walking into a room with one of her headpieces would truly make heads turn.
It was time to see a fashion show I have been waiting to view since I have been a follower of Andreea Hermina for a while now. The Herminas Reea brand was established as a brand in 2013 and has been a participant of Malta Fashion Week 2017 as well as Athens Fashion Week 2018. The brand focuses on Haute Couture dresses, which I am a huge fan of. Andreea’s work focuses mainly on the use of lace.
Her collection is called “Butterfly Effect”, the belief of a small action causing a larger effect, which is inspired by the contemporary woman, contains shades of blue, grey, and nude with the use of transparent textures and corsets. The collection is a direct reflection of the Herminas Reea brand in the belief of sensuality and femininity together with strength and empowerment. It was astonishing how detailed her pieces were. From the beautiful detail on the gowns down to the smallest details such as the headpieces that were made specifically for that look.
The lead hairstylist was Priscilla Mifsud Cini working together with her team and the lead makeup artist Talitha Dimech and her team.
Couture by Gaetano
Gaetano, a local designer who established his brand in 2012 and whose focus is Haute Couture and glamour. He won the Best New Designer award during Malta Fashion Week & Awards in 2015. He also took part in 2016 in the Serbia Fashion Week. The popularity of his creations just kept growing till today. Last night we were presented with his 2018 collection called “Legacy” which was inspired by fashion icons and old Hollywood glamour.
Gaetano took us by surprise as his fashion show was an entire show indeed. Starting off with a video presentation of a young boy who thinks and dreams of only becoming an artist one day and then showing clips of several local celebrities wearing the creations of now a young man, who once was just a boy with a dream.
Following the video presentation was a performance by Marilena Gauci with 2 performers, which was the opening of the fashion show. Gaetano has reached absolute new heights with his “Legacy” collection. The models’ hair was styled by Marlene Vassallo and her team, using Tresemme hair products, together with the lead makeup artists Matthew & Rodrick Castillo and their team, using Evagarden makeup.
Gaetano has managed to create pieces with elements taken from iconic personalities from the past which have changed and shaped society back then and helped create what we know today. As for the closing of the show, Claudia Faniello closed off the show with Marilena Gauci, followed by Taryn Mamocefai walking the runway with Gaetano. You can view some of my favourite pieces from Gaetano’ “Legacy” collection below.
